SAMLS Seminar 31 July 2010
The South African Medico-Legal Society (SAMLS) will be hosting a seminar on Saturday, 31 July 2010 at the Rooth & Wessels Building, 225 Veale Street, Brooklyn, Pretoria.
The guest speakers at the seminar will be :
• Prof Pieter Carstens of the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria. His topic will be “A Historical Perspective on Medical Negligence.”
• Prof Corrie Schumann on the significance of Latin in Medical Terminology.
• Dr Herman Edeling (neurosurgeon) on “The new RAF 4 Serious Injury Assessment Report - When and how to be completed by experts. Also issues with respect to the new RAF 1 Third Party Claim Form and Medical Report”.
The purpose of the discussion by Dr Edeling is to canvas several uncertainties which have arisen in relation to the handling of RAF claims in terms of the new legislation.
The topics to be discussed by Prof Carstens and Prof Schumann will be of great interest to both medical practitioners and legal practitioners and will contribute to a better perspective and understanding of the evolution of medical negligence and the origin and descriptive meaning of certain medical terminology.
