SOUTH AFRICAN MEDICO LEGAL SOCIETY (SAMLS)

During the latter part of 2010, the SAMLS, in order to arrange and present more topical and relevant workshops or seminars, sought some input from the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria.

Following these discussions, a planning session which was attended by prominent legal practitioners and medical experts having an interest in forensic medicine and medical law, was held during January 2011. During this meeting it was decided to present in future real case studies of actions for the purposes of considering the facts, the opinions of medical experts and to present such case studies with a view to inviting inter-active discussion and debate during the presentation of such case studies. It has further been decided that the case studies will in future cover various areas of medical practice and be presented at a suitable venue at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria.

The SAMLS appreciates the gesture from the Department of Surgery to make its facilities available and to provide valuable input for purposes of the presentation of future seminars on case studies.

These case studies will be of relevance and importance to legal practitioners, medical students, law students and medical experts having an interest in medico legal matters.

Delegates qualify for ethical CPD points for attending the seminar.
